HMSBarbados was aColony-class frigate of theUnited Kingdom that served duringWorld War II. She originally was ordered by theUnited States Navy as theTacoma-class patrol frigateUSSHalsted (PF-76) – sometimes spelledHalstead – and was transferred to theRoyal Navy prior to completion.

Construction and acquisition

The ship, originally designated a "patrolgunboat," PG-184, was ordered by theUnited States Maritime Commission under aUnited States Navy contract as USSHalsted. She was reclassified as a "patrol frigate," PF-76, on 15 April 1943 andlaid down by theWalsh-Kaiser Company atProvidence,Rhode Island, on 11 May 1943.[1] Intended for transfer to the United Kingdom, the ship was renamedBarbados by the British prior tolaunching and was launched on 27 August 1943, sponsored by Miss Anna M. Pacheco.

Service history

Transferred to the United Kingdom underLend-Lease on 18 December 1943, the ship served in theRoyal Navy as HMSBarbados (K504) on patrol and escort duty.

Disposal

The United Kingdom returnedBarbados to the U.S. Navy on 15 April 1946. She was sold to theSun Shipbuilding and Drydock Company ofChester,Pennsylvania, on 30 October 1947 for scrapping.
