SIMBADdata

HD 120213 (HR 5188) is a solitarystar in the southerncircumpolar constellationChamaeleon. It is faintly visible to thenaked eye with anapparent magnitude of 5.94 and is estimated to be 910light years away from theSolar System. However, the object is drifting closer with a heliocentricradial velocity of−35 km/s.

HD 120213 has astellar classification of K2 III: CN−1 CH −2.5,[3] indicating that its ared giant with an under abundance of CH molecules andcyano radicals in itsspectrum. It has also been classified as a mildbarium star,[11] but there is uncertainty about the spectral class. It has 4.2 times themass of the Sun[6] and an enlargedradii of38.6 R.[7] It shines at 503 times theluminosity of the Sun from itsphotosphere at aneffective temperature of4,401 K,[7] giving it an orange hue. HD 120213 has ametallicity 56% that of theSun[6] and spins with aprojected rotational velocity too low to be accurately measured.[8]
