They published independently from 1986 thru 1992. At that point, they were acquired and merged withDigital Review with the new titleDigital News & Review.[2]DEC product news and reviews fromSonny Monosson, which were featured on theDigital Business pages ofDigital News[3] were retained in the pages ofDigital News & Reviews.[2]
The Boston Globe had described the situation between the prior publication owners as "The war among the Digitals: Bitter competition reflects growing rivalry betweenZiff,McGovern empires."[4] The combinedDigital News & Review periodical was printed from 1992 to 1996 byReed Business Information.[5][6][2]
In 1988,Digital News acquired 1980-foundedHardcopy magazine (stylizedHARDCOPY).[7] At the time,International Data GroupZiff Davis published "a third DEC-users journal, Boston-based Digital Review."[7]The DEC Professional was the fourth player.[8][9]
