Gurjapneet Singh (born 8 November 1998) is an Indiancricketer who plays forTamil Nadu in domestic cricket andChennai Super Kings in theIndian Premier League. He is a left arm mediumfast bowler and right-handed batter.
Gurjapneet Singh was born on 8 November 1998, in aSikh family, inLudhiana,Punjab, India.[1][2][3] He lived inAmbala during his early years, before moving toChennai in 2017. He completed his college education fromGuru Nanak College, Chennai.[4]
Gurjapneet played for Egmore RC in theTamil Nadu Cricket Association third division league. He was picked up by theDindigul Dragons for the2021 season of theTamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).[4] He took sevenwickets in nine matches for the Dragons in the tournament.[5] However, a back injury ruled him out of most of 2022.[2] He moved toMadurai Panthers for the2023 TNPL season and finished as the second highest wicket taker with 15 wickets at anaverage of 14.1.[6][7] He represented the Panthers in the2024 and 2025 seasons of the TNPL.[8][9]
In September 2024, Gurjapneet was one of the net bowlers for theIndian cricket team in the lead-up to their firstTest match in thehome series againstBangladesh atM. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.[2] During his bowling toVirat Kohli, hebowled him out. Gurjapneet later said that Kohli had given him advice about adjusting his angle to bowl around the wicket when the ball wasn't moving.[10][11] He made hisfirst-class debut forTamil Nadu cricket team in the2024-25 Ranji Trophy againstSaurashtra. He took sixwickets for 22runs on his debut, including the wicket ofCheteshwar Pujara, whom he trappedleg-before for aduck.[2][4] These were the best bowling figures by a Tamil Nadufast bowler in a home match since 2005-06.[12] In his maiden Ranji season, he took 13 wickets in four matches.[13]
Gurjapneet was as a net bowler for theIndian Premier League (IPL) franchiseChennai Super Kings during the2024 IPL season. In theplayer auction conducted ahead of the2025 IPL season, he was bought by the Super Kings for₹220 million (US$2.6 million).[14][15] This figure was more than seven times his pre-auction base price.[13][16] However, he did not play any matches for the Super Kings during the tournament.[17] In September 2025, he was announced as part of theIndia A squad for the home series againstAustralia A.[17]
Gurjapneet is a tall (6’3”) left-arm fast bowler.[18][19] He is described as capable of bowling regularly at speeds of above 130 km/h (81 mph) with the ability to hit thepitch hard and extract bounce and pace from the surface whilst being in possession of a deceptive back-of-the-hand slower ball and the ability to bowlyorkers.[20]
