Guillermo Fernández Romo (born 23 November 1978) is a Spanishfootballmanager.

Career

Born inMadrid, Fernández Romo started his career working as a football teacher at EF Aluche in 1997. He then became a youth coach atSR Villaverde Boetticher CF in the following year, and subsequently worked at several youth sides before having his first senior experience at the helm of CD Racing Garvin in the regional leagues.[1]

In 2005, after working as a scout atUD Vecindario, Fernández Romo was named manager ofTercera División sideCD Las Rozas.[1] He later returned to youth sides, notably managing theJuvenil sides ofPontevedra CF (being also an assistant ofthe reserves for a brief period)[2] andRC Celta de Vigo[3] before being appointed in charge ofSD Noja in 2010.[4]

In 2011, Fernández Romo joinedÓscar Cano's staff atUD Melilla as his assistant.[5] He left the side after Cano's departure in June 2012, being later named manager ofVillalonga FC; in December 2012, he opted to leave the latter side to rejoin Cano's staff atReal Betis B,[6] and was also with the manager atCD Alcoyano.[7]

Fernández Romo returned to managerial duties in July 2015, at the helm ofSegunda División B sideCD Olímpic de Xàtiva.[8] Sacked on 7 February 2016,[9] he became the technical secretary ofReal Murcia on 8 June.[1]

On 26 January 2017, Fernández Romo was presented as manager ofCE Sabadell FC also in the third division.[10] He left in June, and joinedFC Jumilla in July as a sporting director.[11] He became the latter's manager in April 2018,[12] and managed to avoid relegation by winning four of the five remaining matches ofthe season.

On 22 May 2018, Fernández Romo was hired byRacing de Santander to become the club's youth coordinator,[13] but moved toSD Ejea on 13 August after being named manager of the side.[14] He opted to leave on 10 June 2019, after being named in charge ofUE Cornellà.[15]

On 19 May 2021, Fernández Romo left Cornellà[16] and immediately returned to Racing, now being named first team manager in thePrimera División RFEF.[17] He led the latter club to aSegunda División return after a two-year absence inhis first season, with four matches to go.[18]

On 12 December 2022, following a run of five defeats in a row, Fernández Romo was sacked by Racing.[19] The following 6 June, he was appointed in charge ofUD Ibiza,freshly relegated to the third tier,[20] but was also dismissed from the latter on 29 April 2024.[21]

On 14 January 2025, Fernández Romo was namedFC Cartagena's third manager ofthe season.[22] He departed the club on 1 June, after suffering relegation.[23]
