Guido Masetti (Italian pronunciation:[ˈɡwiːdomaˈzetti]; 22 November 1907 – 26 November 1993) was an Italian football player andmanager.
Born inVerona, Masetti played as agoalkeeper forHellas Verona, andA.S. Roma from 1929 to 1943, appearing in 339 matches, winning an Italian title in the1941–42 season.[1]
Masetti was considered in the 1930s and 1940s to be one of the strongest goalkeepers, but as a member for theItaly national team he was merely used as a stand-in forGianpiero Combi andAldo Olivieri. The team won the World Cups of1934 and1938 without Masetti playing in any of the matches.
In 1950s, he was manager of A.S. Roma for ten games (5 in season1950–51, and another 5 in season1956–57).
He died at age 86 inRome.
