Gudermes (Russian:Гудерме́с;Chechen:Гуьмсе,Gümse orГутӏермаӏас,Guthermajas) is atown in theChechen Republic,Russia, located on theSunzha River 36 kilometers (22 mi) east ofGrozny, the republic'scapital. Population:64,376 (2021 Census);[7]45,631 (2010 Census);[3]33,756 (2002 Census);[8]38,089 (1989 Soviet census);[9] 32,000 (1970).

History

Gudermes had rural locality status until 1941. Later, it became arailroadjunction betweenRostov-on-Don,Baku,Astrakhan, andMozdok.

Climate

Gudermes has ahumid continental climate (Köppen:Dfa) closely bordering ahumid subtropical climate (Köppen:Cfa) . Gudermes is one of the warmest places in Russia and has recorded one of Russia's highest temperatures, recording temperatures as high as 44.0 °C (111.2 °F) in July 1999.[10]

Administrative and municipal status

Within theframework of administrative divisions, Gudermes serves as theadministrative center ofGudermessky District, even though it is not a part of it.[1] As an administrative division, it is incorporated separately as thetown of republic significance of Gudermes—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of thedistricts.[1] As amunicipal division, the town of republic significance of Gudermes is incorporated within Gudermessky Municipal District asGudermesskoye Urban Settlement.[4]
