Groupe Artémis is a French investmentholding with a portfolio in fashion (Kering), wine (Artémis Domaines [fr] includingChâteau Latour), art (Christie's,Pinault Collection), sports (Stade Rennais FC) and entertainment (Creative Artists Agency). Headquartered inParis,France, Groupe Artémis was founded byFrançois Pinault in 1992.
In 1992, the French entrepreneurFrançois Pinault transferred his majority stake inPinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR, renamedKering in 2013) to his new company, Groupe Artémis, created as a family investment vehicle. Throughout the 1990s, he engaged in a series of prestigious acquisitions.[1]
The acquisition ofChâteau Latour (Pauillac-Médoc) in 1993[2] was the first of a series under theArtémis Domaines [fr] label. Artémis Domaines was restructured in 2022 after the acquisition ofBouchard Père et Fils.[3]
Groupe Artémis bought the news magazineLe Point in 1997,[4] the auction houseChristie's[5] and theLigue 1 soccer teamStade Rennais FC in 1998,[6] and the book-publishing companyÉditions Tallandier in 1999.[7]
In May 2003,François-Henri Pinault took over the presidency of Artémis.[8]
In 2005, Groupe Artémis acquired thePalazzo Grassi in Venice,[9] which reopened in 2006 as the first exhibition site ofPinault Collection.[10] Pinault Collection inaugurated thePunta della Dogana in Venice in 2009[11] and theBourse de Commerce in Paris in 2021.[12]
Artémis acquired 40.9% ofCourrèges in 2014 (100% in 2018)[13] and the luxury cruise operatorPonant in 2015.[14] In 2017, the group launched the tech investment company Red River West[15] and acquired the couture houseGiambattista Valli.[16] In 2018, Artémis acquired the magazinePoint de vue [fr] (royal family news)[17] and bought 29% ofPuma from Kering.[18]
In 2019, the Pinault family, through Artémis, pledged to donate 100 million euros for the reconstruction ofNotre-Dame de Paris after thefire.[19] In 2023, Artémis acquired a majority stake in the talent and sports agencyCreative Artists Agency (CAA) for an estimated $7 billion, "a deal that shows the ever-growing convergence of fashion and fame" according toThe New York Times.[20]
