Greta Jiehan Lee (born March 7, 1983) is an American actress. She had main roles in theNetflix comedy-drama seriesRussian Doll (2019–2022) and theApple TV+ drama seriesThe Morning Show (2021–2025). The latter earned her a nomination for thePrimetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Shegained prominence for her starring role in the romantic drama filmPast Lives (2023), for which she received a nomination for aGolden Globe Award for Best Actress.[1]

Lee's other film roles includeProblemista (2023),Tron: Ares (2025),Late Fame (2025), andA House of Dynamite (2025). She voicedLyla in the animated superhero filmsSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) andSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). Also known for her roles in theater, Lee made herBroadway debut in the musical comedyThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2007). She starred in the 2010 revival of the comedic playLa Bête on Broadway and in theWest End and theAmy Herzog play4000 Miles (2011) atLincoln Center Theatre.

Lee was born and raised inLos Angeles, California to South Korean immigrants. While attendingHarvard-Westlake School, she became interested in the performing arts. After high school, she studied theater atNorthwestern University. She then moved toNew York City to pursue acting.[2][3][4][5]

Acting career

Lee made her television debut in 2006 playing Heather Kim in theLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Taboo". The following year Lee made herBroadway debut as high-achieving, multilingual honor student Marcy Park (replacement) in the musical comedyThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Lee returned to Broadway, portraying Dorine in theDavid Hirson comedyLa Bête (2010) at theMusic Box Theatre.[6] Lee acted alongsideMark Rylance,David Hyde Pierce, andJoanna Lumley. She reprised her role in theWest End production at theHarold Pinter Theatre.

During this time she had recurring television roles including Heidi in theHBO comedy-drama seriesHigh Maintenance from 2012 to 2018, a nurse inShowtime's dark comedy seriesNurse Jackie from 2012 to 2013 and as Soojin inLena Dunham'sHBO seriesGirls from 2013 to 2014.[7] She was a guest star in the TV showsNew Girl andWayward Pines. She also acted in numerous films, playing Hae Won in the comedySisters (2015) alongsideTina Fey andAmy Poehler and Amy Lee in the dramaMoney Monster starringGeorge Clooney andJulia Roberts. Lee continued to act in television shows such as Ruby in the Fox mystery science-fiction seriesWayward Pines, Lucy in theHulu seriesChance, and Amber Wood-Lutz in theCBS/Paramount+legal drama seriesThe Good Fight.

Lee gained prominence for her roles as Maxine in theNetflix comedy-drama seriesRussian Doll[8][9] and as Stella Bak in theApple TV+ drama seriesThe Morning Show, the latter of which earned her nominations for aPrimetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and twoScreen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series along with the cast.[10][11][12] In 2020, she portrayed Princess Vicky of Valdroggia inMiracle Workers: Dark Ages, Celeste inWhat We Do in the Shadows, and Ellen Jones inThe Twilight Zone. From 2021 to 2023, she played Bubbles as well as various voice roles in theFox animated sitcomHouseBroken. She voicedLyla in apost-credits scene of the animated filmSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a role she reprised in its 2023 sequelSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.[13] In 2021, Lee was reported to be working on a TV adaptation of the bookMinor Feelings byCathy Park Hong forA24.[14]

Lee gained critical acclaim for her starring role in the 2023Celine Song–directed romantic filmPast Lives playing Nora, a woman who reconnects with her childhood friend fromSouth Korea.[15] Lee won theHollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film.[16] Moreover, she also received nominations for theGolden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, theCritics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress and theIndependent Spirit Award for Best Lead Performance.[17]

In June 2023, it was announced that Lee would join the cast ofTron: Ares alongsideJared Leto.[18] In October 2024, it was announced she would join the cast ofKent Jones'Late Fame alongsideWillem Dafoe.[19]

Lee has been featured in advertising campaigns of fashion labelsLoewe (2023 and 2024) andCalvin Klein (2024).[20]

Personal life

Lee is married to actor and writer Russ Armstrong,[21] with whom she has two sons.[11]
