TheGreen Battalion (Arabic:الكتيبة الخضراء,al-Katiba al-Khadra) was ajihadist group that was active during theSyrian Civil War.[10] Formed in 2013 by a group ofSaudi veterans of theIraq War andAfghanistan war,[4] the group fought alongsideJabhat al-Nusra and theIslamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against Syrian government forces, while remaining independent and neutral in the dispute between ISILand other groups.[4] The group announced on 25 July 2014 that it became part ofJabhat Ansar al-Din.[6] The group claimed allegiance toJaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar around October 2014.[3]
