Greater Danbury (Danbury-New Milford Area), also known as theHousatonic Valley Region, is a region in theU.S. state ofConnecticut centered on the city ofDanbury. It consists of the city of Danbury and adjacent towns in the areas around theHousatonic River and theStill River. The area is also home toCandlewood Lake, the largest lake in theNew York metropolitan area.[2]
TheU.S. Census Bureau defines themetropolitan area of Danbury as theDanbury MetropolitanNECTA. It consists of the city of Danbury plus the towns ofBethel,Bridgewater,Brookfield,New Fairfield,New Milford,Newtown,Ridgefield,Roxbury, andSherman for a total of 9 municipalities.[3] As of 2019, the population of the Danbury NECTA was 193,427.[4]
The Danbury NECTA is located within the area administered by theWestern Connecticut Council of Governments, and is part of the Housatonic Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization.[5][6]
As defined by theBureau of Labor Statistics, the labor market area of Danbury includes the towns in the Housatonic Valley Region plus the towns ofRoxbury andWashington for a total of twelve towns.
