Graziano Bini (born 7 January 1955) is an Italian retired professionalfootball player andmanager, who played as adefender. He spent the majority of his club career with Italian sideInter, where he won aSerie A title and twoCoppa Italia titles; he ended his career withGenoa.
Bini was born inSan Daniele Po. After spending his youth career withCremonese (1966) andInter (1968–71), he also went on to represent theInter senior team for fourteen seasons during his club career. He joined the first team during the1971–72 season, making his debut on 7 May 1972, in a 0–0 away draw againstSampdoria; he remained with the club until 1985, later being named the team'scaptain in 1978, and wearing the armband for the next seven seasons, until he left the club. During his time in Milan, he made 343 appearances (233 inSerie A), scoring 13 goals (seven in Serie A); he won aSerie A title in1980, and twoCoppa Italia titles, in1978, and 1982, also reaching the semi-finals of the1980–81 European Cup, during which he scored a goal againstReal Madrid. After struggling with injuries and competing withRiccardo Ferri for a place in the starting line-up during his final season with the club, Bini later joinedGenoa, where he remained until his retirement in 1988, spending the last two seasons of his career inSerie B.[1][2][3]
Due to much competition fromFacchetti and subsequentlyScirea in his position, at international level, Bini only made a single appearance forItaly, which came in a 4–1 unofficial friendly home win againstNorway, on 10 February 1975; he also made five appearances with the Under-23 side, and two with theItaly national under-21 football team.[4]
Following his retirement, Bini worked as a scout; he currently coaches theFree Players, a non-professional Italy national team made up of Serie A free agents.[3]
A tall, physically strong and elegantsweeper, Bini was known for his confidence on the ball, his leadership, and his goalscoring as a defender, due to his ability in the air, although he was also injury prone. He was also capable of playing as a man-markingcentre-back, orstopper.[3][5]
