Gracy Singh (born 20 July 1980[1]) is an Indian actress who primarily works inHindi andTelugu films. She is best known for her role in the filmsLagaan andMunna Bhai M.B.B.S.[2] Singh is also a trainedBharatnatyam andOdissidancer.[3][4]
Born inDelhi, India,[1] Singh began her career touring with the dance group "The Planets".[3] Her first acting role was in the 1997 television soap,Amanat. In 1999 she was seen in Bengali FilmSundori Bou. She then went on to star oppositeAamir Khan inAshutosh Gowariker's epic sports-dramaLagaan, where she played a village belle. She was nominated in this role for theFilmfare Award for Best Female Debut,[citation needed] and won theScreen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Female.[5]
PostLagaan, Singh appeared in a few successful films in Hindi and Telugu includingMunna Bhai M.B.B.S.[6] andSantosham. She has also starred inPunjabi films such asLakh Pardesi Hoye[7] and aMalayalam filmLoudspeaker directed by Jayaraj.[8]
In 2015, Singh returned to television, playingGoddess Santoshi in the seriesSantoshi Maa on&TV.[9][10]
