Govinddas Mannulal Shroff (1911–2002), was an Indianfreedom fighter who led people ofMarathwada region in a fight against theNizam of Hyderabad during theHyderabad Campaign of 1948. As a result, theMarathwada region was liberated from theHyderabad State on 17 September 1948.[1]
Shroff served as the longest serving secretary and president of the Saraswati Bhuvan Education Society.[2] He was awarded the second highestcivilian award of India thePadma Vibhushan in 1992 for his work in the field of literature and education.[3]
Later in 1966, people responded to the call of Shroff by taking part inhunger strikes,morchas,rail rokos,bandhs and other form ofprotests to press for abroad gauge train routes.[4][5]
