Thegovernor of Maharashtra is the ceremonial head of the Indian state ofMaharashtra. TheConstitution of India confers the executive powers of the state to the governor; however, the de facto executive powers lie with the Council of Ministers.[1]

Acharya Devvrat, theGovernor ofGujarat, is currently also discharging the duties of theGovernor ofMaharashtra since 15 September 2025.

Powers and duties

The governor formally appoints many of the state officials, including the advocate general of Bombay, theLokayukta and Upa Lokayukta, thestate election commissioner, the chairman and members of the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal, the chairman and members of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission, the chairman and members of theMaharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), the chairmen and members of the three development boards, thesheriff of Bombay, and thestate chief information commissioner.

B., do swear in the name of God/solemly affirm that I will faithfully execute the office of Governor (or discharge the functions of the Governor) of Maharashtra and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law and that I will devote myself to the service and well-being of the people of Maharashtra.
