European (as well as Japanese and Chinese) colonial administrators (French:Gouverneurs généraux de l'Indochine française) had historically been responsible for the territory ofFrench Indochina, an area equivalent to modern-dayVietnam,Laos,Cambodia, and theChinese city ofZhanjiang.
