His Majesty's Government of Gibraltar is thedemocratically electedgovernment of theBritish Overseas Territory ofGibraltar. The head of state isKing Charles III who is represented by theGovernor.Elections in Gibraltar are held every four years, with aunicameralparliament of 18 members of which 17 members are elected by popular vote and one, theSpeaker, appointed by Parliament.
The leader of the majority party (or majority coalition) is formally appointed by the governor as theChief Minister (head of government).[1]
TheCabinet (Council of Ministers) is generally formed by 9-10 of the 17 elected Members of Parliament, through choice made by the Chief Minister with the approval of the Governor.[2] The 7-8 remaining members constitute theOpposition (Shadow Cabinet).[1]
Thelast general election was held on 12 October 2023.
The Chief Minister earns £142,689 (per anuum) whilst the other Ministers earn £109,253.
