Gordon Ambrose de Lisle LeeCB CVO (11 July 1863[1] – 12 September 1927) was a Britishofficer of arms, an expert inJapanese art andheraldry and astage designer.
Lee was born inAberdeen, the second son of ReverendFrederick George Lee,vicar of All Saints, Lambeth.[2] He was educated atSt Mary's College, Harlow andWestminster School and became an artist and designer.
In 1888, he married Rose, the eldest daughter of Robert Wallace, Secretary to theEarl Marshal.[2]
In 1889, he joined theCollege of Arms asBluemantle Pursuivant. He was appointedYork Herald on 29 November 1905 in succession toGeorge William Marshall[3] and thenNorroy King of Arms in 1922, before being appointedClarenceux King of Arms, the Principal Herald of South, East and West England, on 5 October 1926 in succession toWilliam Lindsay.[4] He was secretary to the Earl Marshal from 1911 to 1917 and theDeputy Earl Marshal from 1917 until his death.
He was appointedCompanion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 1920 New Year War Honours[5] andCommander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the1926 New Year Honours.
