2025 protest
TheGood Trouble Lives On protest was a demonstration held on July 17, 2025.[ 1] [ 2] [ 3] The name of the protest is based on the term "good trouble" coined by American politician and civil rights leaderJohn Lewis ,[ 4] who died on July 17, 2020.[ 5] According to theRolling Stone , the protest's rallying cry is "March in Peace. Act in Power."[ 6] Tens of thousands of people were expected to participate[ 7] in approximately 1,600 locations,[ 8] including in all 50U.S. states andPuerto Rico .[ 9] [ 10]
As many as 200,000 people participated in the United States.[ 11]
Organizers of the protest include theAmerican Constitution Society ,Black Voters Matter , Declaration for American Democracy,Indivisible , theLeadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights ,National Urban League , andVoters of Tomorrow , theThird Act Movement and the Transformative Justice Coalition.[ 12] [ 13]
Locations and activities by U.S. region [ edit ] John Lewis Activities were planned in approximately 1,600 locations in the United States.[ 8] [ 14]
East North Central states [ edit ] InIllinois , demonstrations were planned inChicago [ 15] and inSchaumburg Township .[ 16] Hundreds of people gathered in both Chicago[ 17] andElgin .[ 18]
InIndiana , a protest was planned inLafayette .[ 19] There was also a demonstration outside theIndiana Statehouse inIndianapolis .[ 20]
Approximately 60 protests were held inMichigan .[ 21] Protests were planned in theLower andUpper Peninsulas ,[ 10] including in the cities ofBenzonia andManistee .[ 22] There were demonstrations inDetroit ,Lansing ,[ 23] Paw Paw ,Royal Oak ,South Haven ,[ 24] Traverse City ,[ 25] andTroy .[ 26] Hundreds of people gathered inHowell .[ 21]
InOhio , protests were planned inCincinnati ,[ 27] Marion[ 28] andYoungstown .[ 29] Multiple demonstrations were expected in Central Ohio, includingColumbus , Delaware City,Hilliard ,London ,Newark ,Reynoldsburg ,Sunbury , andWesterville .[ 30] [ 31] Approximately 60 people gathered inAkron .[ 32] Hundreds gathered in Cleveland.[ 33] A small group gathered inWapakoneta .[ 34]
Approximately 40 demonstrations were planned inWisconsin , including inBrookfield ,Glendale ,Menomonee Falls ,Milwaukee ,Muskego , andWaukesha .[ 35] A protest was held at theState Capitol .[ 36] [ 37] Hundreds attended an event inSheboygan .[ 38]
West North Central states [ edit ] Approximately 20 protests were planned inIowa .[ 39] Hundreds of people gathered in bothDes Moines andIowa City .[ 40] [ 41]
InKansas , an event was scheduled inLawrence .[ 42] [ 43]
InMinnesota , an event inRochester attended by dozens of people was organized by the local chapter of theNAACP .[ 44] [ 45]
Approximately 20 protests were planned InMissouri ,[ 46] including inSpringfield .[ 47] [ 48]
InNebraska , an event was organized inKearney .[ 49]
Middle Atlantic states [ edit ] Demonstrations were planned inNew Jersey ,[ 4] including inMorris Township .[ 50]
Demonstrations were planned inNew York ,[ 4] including inEast Hampton .[ 51] [ 52] An event was held inRiverdale, Bronx .[ 53] Hundreds attended the event inRochester .[ 54]
Demonstrations were planned inPennsylvania ,[ 4] [ 55] including inHarrisburg [ 56] andMeadville .[ 57] Approximately 170 people gathered inWashington .[ 58]
Connecticut saw protests inHartford ,[ 59] New Haven , andNewtown .[ 60] [ 61]
InMaine , protests were planned inAuburn ,Bridgton ,Farmington , Norway/South Paris,[ 62] and Wayne.[ 63]
Approximately 100 demonstrations were planned inMassachusetts . Five were planned inCape Cod .[ 64] Protesters gathered in downtownPlymouth .[ 65]
InNew Hampshire , approximately 300 people gathered at the State House inConcord .[ 66]
East South Central states [ edit ] Approximately ten protests were organized inAlabama , including inAnniston ,Auburn ,Birmingham ,Center Point ,Cullman ,Dothan ,Fairhope ,Fort Payne ,Mobile , andMontgomery .[ 67] Approximately 90 people gathered in Fairhope.[ 68]
InKentucky , demonstrations were planned inBeaver Dam ,Frankfort ,Hazard ,Lexington ,Munford ,Paducah ,Shelbyville ,Shepherdsville , andStanford .[ 69]
InTennessee , events were planned inChattanooga ,Jackson ,Knoxville ,Memphis ,Sumner County , andTullahoma .[ 70] Approximately 70 people gathered inHendersonville .[ 71]
South Atlantic states [ edit ] Participants of the demonstration inWashington, D.C. , including one with a sign referencing theJeffrey Epstein client list InDelaware , there were protests inNewark andWilmington .[ 72]

An event was also planned inBay County .[ 82] Approximately 400 people gathered inSt. Petersburg .[ 83] Approximately 100 people gathered in West Palm Beach.[ 84]
InGeorgia , events were planned inAtlanta ,Brunswick , Columbus,[ 85] Marietta ,Newnan ,Richmond Hill ,Savannah ,Valdosta , andWaynesboro .[ 86] Multiple events were expected inMetro Atlanta .[ 87] Approximately 30 protesters gathered inAugusta .[ 88]
There were demonstrations inMaryland , including in Annapolis, Baltimore County, and Hunt Valley.[ 89] [ 90]
Between 30 and 40 protests were planned inNorth Carolina ,[ 91] including inOak Island ,Raleigh ,[ 92] andWilmington .[ 93] [ 94] A few hundred people gathered at Pack Square Park inAsheville .[ 95] There were also protests inCarteret County [ 96] andHenderson County .[ 97]
InVirginia , a protest was planned inSaluda .[ 98] There were also demontrations inStaunton andWaynesboro .[ 99]
An event was planned inWashington, D.C. [ 100]
InWest Virginia , a demonstration was planned inCharles Town .[ 101]

Ten protests were organized inOklahoma , including inOklahoma City [ 103] [ 104] andTulsa .[ 105]
Approximately 60 protests were planned inTexas ,[ 106] including inArlington ,Dallas ,El Paso ,Fort Worth ,[ 107] Garland ,Houston ,[ 108] [ 109] andMarfa .[ 106] Approximately 150 people gathered inDenton .[ 110] The Houston event was held outsideCity Hall .[ 111] [ 112]
Approximately 30 events were planned inArizona ,[ 113] including inAnthem ,Camp Verde ,[ 114] Goodyear ,Mesa ,Phoenix ,[ 115] Scottsdale , andTempe .[ 116] A man pulled out a gun at the Mesa demonstration.[ 117]
InCochise County , events were held inBisbee ,Douglas , andSierra Vista . Hundreds gathered in Sierra Vista.[ 118]
Protests were planned inColorado , including inBoulder ,Denver ,[ 119] andTrinidad .[ 120] Streets were closed in Denver, where approximately 2,000 people participated.[ 121] [ 122] Hundreds of people gathered inFort Collins .[ 123]
InIdaho , an event was planned inPocatello .[ 124]
InNevada , protests were planned inCarson City andReno .[ 125]
Events were planned in 11 locations inNew Mexico :Albuquerque ,Carlsbad ,Cibola County ,Embudo ,Las Cruces ,Madrid ,Roswell ,Santa Fe ,Socorro ,Taos ,Tijeras , andTruth or Consequences .[ 126]
Approximately 10 protests were planned inUtah .[ 127]
InCalifornia , approximately 100[ 128] protests were organized in the following cities:
Multiple demonstrations were planned inSan Diego County .[ 133] [ 134] Approximately three dozen protests were held in theSan Francisco Bay Area .[ 135] [ 136] Hundreds attended theClaremont ,[ 137] El Cajon ,[ 138] andSacramento events.[ 139] Approximately 200 people gathered inModesto .[ 140] Hundreds gathered in Burbank &Ventura .[ 141]
Dozens of protests were planned inOregon , including multiple events inPortland [ 142] and inSouthern Oregon .[ 143] In thePortland metropolitan area , demonstrations were held in the city'sLaurelhurst Park andWillamette Park , as well as inCanby andEstacada .[ 144] The filmGood Trouble was screened inLake Oswego . The event was being organized by Unite 4 Democracy.[ 145] There was also a protest inSalem .[ 144] [ 146] Streets were closed for the protest at theOregon State Capitol inEugene .[ 147]

International protests [ edit ] Democrats Abroad organized various protests around the world on July 17 in support of Good Trouble Lives On, mostly inEurope . A mobilization by Democrats Abroad across the country also occurred inCanada , notably, with the participation ofDavid Pepper .[ 155] Protests by Democrats Abroad also took place inOaxaca andAjijic ,Mexico .[ 156]
A protest organized by Democrats Abroad took place inBrussels , at the intersection betweenRue Belliard andAve de Arts , inBelgium .[ 157]
A protest took place inToulouse ,Place du Capitole ,France and consisted ofFlash Mob Photo Op followed by acocktail party .[ 158] Another Democrats Abroad protest took place inStrasbourg , where people gathered to debate and discuss various themes in the proximity of the local Hotel Léonor.[ 159]
InHamburg ,Hafencity , Democrats Abroad organized what they called a "gathering" which lasted 1 hour and consisted of "readings from Lewis’s speeches,live music ,spoken word , and community reflection". Some special guests were also invited to the "gathering", including Ron Williams.[ 160]
Protests organized by Democrats Abroad also occurred in the form of online initiatives inItaly .[ 161] This kind of virtual protest was not unique to Italy and also occurred inNorway on the same day.[ 162]
InIreland , a protest organized by Democrats Abroad took place inDublin , at the localUS Embassy . The official website of Democrats Abroad Ireland described the event as "more then a protest", defining it as a "moral reckoning".[ 163]
InBarcelona ,Spain , Democrats Abroad organized a drink party, movie night and a gathering to induce Informal discussion amongst the local Americans that live in the city.[ 164]
