Inenzymology, aglycine dehydrogenase (EC1.4.1.10) is anenzyme thatcatalyzes thechemical reaction

glycine + H2O + NAD+{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons } glyoxylate + NH3 + NADH + H+

The 3substrates of this enzyme areglycine,H2O, andNAD+, whereas its 4products areglyoxylate,NH3,NADH, andH+.

This enzyme belongs to the family ofoxidoreductases, specifically those acting on the CH-NH2 group of donors with NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor. Thesystematic name of this enzyme class isglycine:NAD+ oxidoreductase (deaminating).

This should not be confused with:

the glycine dehydrogenase (decarboxylating), which is another name for theGlycine cleavage system P-protein (EC1.4.4.2).

or the glycine dehydroganse (cyanide forming)(EC1.4.99.5).

or the glycine dehydrogenase (cytochrome) (EC1.4.2.1).
