Global union federation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aglobal union federation (GUF) is an internationalfederation of nationaltrade unions organizing in specific industry sectors or occupational groups. Historically, such federations in the social democratic tradition described asinternational trade secretariats (ITS),[1] while those in theChristian democratic tradition described themselves asinternational trade federations. Equivalent sectoral bodies linked to theWorld Federation of Trade Unions described themselves astrade union internationals.

Many unions are members of one or more global union federations, relevant to the sectors where they have their members. Individual unions may also be affiliated to anational trade union centre, which in turn can be affiliated to theInternational Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) or the WFTU.
