Gisekia is agenus offlowering plants. It is the only genus in thefamilyGisekiaceae. The family was recognized in theAPG II system (2003) and assigned to the orderCaryophyllales in the cladecore eudicots. This represents a change from theAPG system (1998), which did not recognize this family.

The genus was named byCarl Linnaeus afterPaul Dietrich Giseke (1741-1796),[citation needed] a German botanist who studied under him, and who later published his notes on Linnaeus' lectures under the titlePraelectiones in Ordines Naturales Plantarum (1792).
