Gilberto Alves, nicknamedGil (born December 24, 1950, inNova Lima), is a formerfootballer fromBrazil. He played as aforward, in particular withFluminense Football Club and theBrazil national team.
Gil played for several clubs, starting his career withVilla Nova in 1970,[1] playing forComercial from 1974 to 1977.[2] He played forFluminense during the time where the club was nicknamedMáquina Tricolor (Three Color Machine).[1] He then moved to its former club's rivals,Botafogo, where he stayed until 1980, when he joinedCorinthians, moving in the subsequent years toReal Murcia of Spain,Coritiba, andFarense of Portugal, respectively.[2]
He received 41 caps, scoring 13 goals[2] from April 1976 to June 1978, and played seven games during theWorld Cup 1978.[3]
On September 2, 2008, Gilberto Alves was hired asMarília's manager.[4]
