Ghosh (Bengali:ঘোষ) is a nativeBengalisurname that is found among theBengali Hindu community ofIndia andBangladesh. A popular alternative spelling isGhose.

Ghoshes originally belong to Kayastha caste inBengal. According to GK Ghosh, some Bengali surnames like Ghosh were adopted fromBuddhist tradition.[1] Ghoshes are considered asKulin Kayasthas of Soukalingotra, along withBoses,Mitras, and Bangaja (Eastern Bengal)Guhas.[2]

Ghosh surname is in vogue among theSadgop and Goala/Gowala communities inBengal.[3][4][5]
