Geyserite, orsiliceous sinter, is a form ofopalinesilica that is often found as crusts or layers aroundhot springs andgeysers.Botryoidal geyserite is known asfiorite. Geyserite is porous due to the silica enclosing many small cavities.[1] Siliceous sinter should not be confused withcalcareous sinter, which is made ofcalcium carbonate.

In May 2017, evidence of theearliest known lifeon land may have been found in 3.48-billion-year-old geyserite uncovered in thePilbara Craton ofWestern Australia.[2][3]
