José Gerson Ramos (born 29 March 1981), commonly known asGerson, is a Brazilianfootballcoach and former player who played as amidfielder. He is the current assistant coach ofJuventude.
Born inCarmópolis,Sergipe, Gerson began his career withCamaçariense [pt], and later played forCatuense before joiningMogi Mirim in 2005. In April of the following year, he moved toParaná.[1]
On 24 July 2007, Gerson and Paraná teammateXaves joinedAtlético Mineiro.[2] Regularly used under head coachZetti, he subsequently lost his starting spot, and would feature mainly as aright-back during the 2008 season before rescinding his contract on 27 May of that year.[3]
Shortly after leavingGalo, Gerson signed forSão Caetano. In December 2009, after falling down the pecking order, he was transferred toMirassol[4]
On 19 April 2010, Gerson was presented atPonte Preta.[5] In December, he renewed his contract for a further year,[6] and featured regularly in the 2011 campaign.
In December 2012, Gerson agreed to a deal withAtlético Sorocaba for the upcoming season.[7] He moved toCuiabá on 21 August 2013,[8] but only played once and signed forRio Branco-SP on 2 November.[9]
Gerson would feature in the lower leagues in the remainder of his career, representingAudax Rio (two stints),Caldas Novas,Rio Verde andSão José dos Campos. He retired with the latter in 2017, aged 36.
On 17 May 2018, Gerson moved toPrimavera as an assistant coach.[10] In the following year, he joinedReal Brasília, where he worked as an under-20 coach and as an assistant of thewomen's team.
In September 2021, Gerson became the head coach ofARUC [pt] after the club established a partnership with Real Brasília.[11] Back to the latter club for the 2022 season, he would later take overRoyal.
Ahead of the 2023 campaign, Gerson became the head coach of Real Brasília's first team.[12] He led the club to the2023 Campeonato Brasiliense title, but left on 15 May 2023.[13]
On 18 July 2023, Gerson was announced as head coach ofTrindade in theCampeonato Goiano Terceira Divisão,[14] but left the club before the start of the competition. On 20 November, he took overSamambaia,[15] but left on 2 January 2024, before coaching in a single match,[16] after receiving an offer fromJuventude to become an assistant.[17]
On 29 September 2024, Gerson ledJu in a 1–1 home draw againstRed Bull Bragantino, as head coachJair Ventura was suspended.[18] He remained an assistant until August of the following year, when he was named interim head coach after the dismissal ofCláudio Tencati.[19]
