Gerry Monroe (20 January 1933 – October 1989) was anEnglishpopsinger, who enjoyed brief popularity in the early 1970s.

BornHenry Morris inSouth Shields,County Durham, England, Monroe scored fiveTop 40hits on theUK Singles Chart in 1970-71.[1] A former colliery worker, he was spotted onHughie Green'sOpportunity KnocksTV show byLes Reed, who signed him to a long-term deal with Chapter One Records. He had a high and distinctivefalsettovoice, and managed to notch upchart hits for the Chapter Onelabel, including "Sally", a song first made popular byGracie Fields in the 1930s. Monroe's version wasco-produced andco-arranged by Reed.[2] In 1997 analbum,Sally: Pride of Our Alley, was released oncompact disc on the Gold Dust label.[3] Monroe also recorded a tribute toBobby Charlton in 1973, following the footballer's retirement, called "Goodbye Bobby Boy".

Monroe died in October 1989 at the age of 56.[4]
