Germanicopolis (Greek:Γερμανικόπολις) was an ancient town inBithynia, also known asCaesarea in Bythinia (not to be confused withCaesarea Germanica, as such a former bishopric and present Latin Catholictitular see.
It was located on theGelbes river,[1] not far fromPrusa (modern Bursa inTurkey). In earlier times it was calledHelge,Helgas orBooscoete (Βοὸς κοίτη),Plin. v. 40. Modern scholars locate the town at the village of Tahtalı
The city was taken by theOttoman Empire in 1326 and the new Ottomancapital city was built at nearbyBursa (the Ancient Prusa).
InByzantine times the town was the see of asuffragan of theArchdiocese of Nicomedia, in the sway of thePatriarchate of Constantinople.

The diocese was nominally restored in 1933 as LatinTitular bishopric of Cesarea in Bithynia (Latin) / Cesarea di Bitinia (Curiate Italian) / Cæsarien(sis) in Bithynia (Latin adjective).
