Georgie Glen (born 20 April 1956) is a Scottish actress, best known for her roles as Miss Higgins in theBBC One period drama seriesCall the Midwife from 2018 onwards, and as history teacherAudrey McFall in the BBC One school-based drama seriesWaterloo Road from 2012 to 2015.

Life and career

Glen is fromHelensburgh inArgyll and Bute, Scotland, and graduated fromGlasgow School of Art with a degree in graphic design. She worked atThames and Hudson publishers as an assistant book designer[1] for five years before studying at theBristol Old Vic Theatre School for two years. After graduating she worked for a year atWolsey Theatre inIpswich, England.[2]

She has featured in the BBC One drama seriesCall the Midwife,Waterloo Road, andLes Misérables as Mother Abbess; in 2012, she appeared in the filmLes Misérables as Madame Baptistine. Additional period performances includeHannah More in the 2006 filmAmazing Grace,John Ruskin's mother in the dramaDesperate Romantics about thePre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, as well as lady-in-waiting toJudi Dench's characters in bothShakespeare in Love andMrs. Brown.

Since 2018, she has been cast in the role of Millicent Higgins, a GP receptionist, inCall the Midwife.[3][4]

Other notable performances include a recurring role inHeartbeat as Sgt Jennifer Noakes, and one of the eponymousCalendar Girls. Glen has also portrayed various characters in comedies includingLittle Britain andHarry Enfield and Chums, as well as a guest role inThe Thick of It and oneepisode ofThe Sarah Jane Adventures.

She appeared in series four of Netflix dramaThe Crown in 2020 playingRuth Roche, Lady Fermoy, the maternal grandmother ofLady Diana Spencer and lady-in-waiting to the Queen Mother.[5]
