Georges Leon Rey (born 1945) is an American philosopher. He is a professor of philosophy at theUniversity of Maryland.
Rey received a doctoral degree in philosophy fromHarvard University in 1978.[1] His thesis was titledThe possibility of psychology: some preliminary issues,[1] and was completed underHilary Putnam.[citation needed]
His bookContemporary Philosophy of Mind discusses the topic ofphilosophy of mind.[citation needed] One major focus of Rey's exposition relates toeliminativism andinstrumentalism, particularly with respect to the mental states that we are subjectively aware of by way ofintrospection.[citation needed] Rey is the author of the current article on philosophy of mind atEncyclopædia Britannica Online.[2]
