Georges Leon Rey (born 1945) is an American philosopher. He is a professor of philosophy at theUniversity of Maryland.

Rey received a doctoral degree in philosophy fromHarvard University in 1978.^[1] His thesis was titledThe possibility of psychology: some preliminary issues,^[1] and was completed underHilary Putnam.^{[citation needed]}

His bookContemporary Philosophy of Mind discusses the topic ofphilosophy of mind.^{[citation needed]} One major focus of Rey's exposition relates toeliminativism andinstrumentalism, particularly with respect to the mental states that we are subjectively aware of by way ofintrospection.^{[citation needed]} Rey is the author of the current article on philosophy of mind atEncyclopædia Britannica Online.^[2]
