Thegeneral somatic afferent fibers (GSA orsomatic sensory fibers) areafferent fibers that arise fromneurons in sensory ganglia and are found in all thespinal nerves, except occasionally the first cervical. General somatic afferents conduct impulses ofpain, touch andtemperature from the surface of the body through thedorsal roots to thespinal cord, and impulses of muscle sense, tendon sense and joint sense from the deeper structures.[1]
