Gautelisvatnet (Norwegian) orGuovdelisjávri (Northern Sami)[2] is alake that is located on the border ofNorway andSweden, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) southeast of thetown of Narvik. The Norwegian side lies inNarvik Municipality inNordland county and the Swedish side lies inGällivare Municipality inNorrbotten County. The 17.67-square-kilometre (6.82 sq mi) lake has adam on the northern end and the water is used forhydropower. After the dam was built, the lake grew and merged with the lake Vannaksvatnet to the south. The lakeUnna Guovdelisjávri lies just to the east of this lake.[3]
