Gauahar Khan (born 23 August 1983) is an Indian actress,[2][3][4] model and beauty pageant titleholder. She is Winner ofBigg Boss season 7, Gauhar appears inHindi films and television.[5] She started her career as a model and participated in theFemina Miss India contest in 2002.
After appearing in dance songs, Khan made her acting debut withYash Raj Films'sRocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009). Khan later starred in films such as the action thrillerGame (2011), the revenge dramaIshaqzaade (2012), the suspense thrillerFever (2016), the romantic comedyBadrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) and the Indian period dramaBegum Jaan (2017).[6]
In 2013, she participated inBigg Boss 7 and emerged as the winner.[7]
Khan was born on 23 August 1983[8][2] in a Muslim family in Pune, Maharashtra to Zafar and Razia Khan.[8] She completed her schooling from Mount Carmel Convent School, Pune. She is the youngest of five siblings and the sister of actressNigaar Khan.[9]
Khan started her career as a model. In 2002, at the age of 18, she participated inFemina Miss India contest where she came fourth and won the Miss Talented title. Later that year, she represented India in theMiss International 2002 contest.[10] Khan appeared in a small role in movieMiss India: The Mystery as a model participant.[11]
She appeared in a couple of music videos one of which, "Hawa Mein Udati Jaaye" byBombay Vikings, became hugely popular.[12] She anchored the film gossip showPage 3 onZoom Television.[13] In 2004, Khan made her entry inBollywood with two films,Aan: Men at Work andShankar Dada M.B.B.S., a Telugu film in item songs.
In February 2009, she participated inSony TV's celebrity dance reality show,Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3 where she became the first runner up of the show.[14] She made her acting debut in the 2009Yash Raj Films productionRocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.Anupama Chopra said, "Gauahar was fashionable, ambitious and smart receptionist, she was sharply etched and memorable as Koena in the film".[15] In 2010, Khan appeared inEkta Kapoor'sOnce Upon a Time in Mumbaai in an item number, "Parda".[16]
Khan next appeared as outspoken and rebellious Samara Shroff in the action thrillerGame (2011).NDTV said that "Gauhar as the loyal secretary Samara is nicely outfitted."[17] Later in the year, along with her sisterNigaar Khan, Gauahar appeared in the reality show,The Khan Sisters.[18] Khan played Chand Bibi in the 2012 romantic dramaIshaqzaade, in which she also appeared in twoitem numbers "Jhalla Walla" and "Chokra Jawaan". Shomini Sen ofZee News stated that, "Gauahar as a kind-hearted prostitute Chand sizzles in two songs. It is pity that she is used so less in the film.".[19]Taran Adarsh said, "Gauahar is lovely in a special role. Also, she dances very well in the two tracks."[20]
In 2013, Khan became a celebrity contestant in theseventh season ofColors TV's reality showBigg Boss, an Indian version of thereality TV showBig Brother.[citation needed] Khan took an exit after her boyfriendKushal Tandon was asked to leave after he hitVJ Andy. A day later she returned to the house.[21] She emerged as the winner in December 2013 defeating actressTanishaa Mukerji.[22]
In May 2014, Khan participated in Colors TV's stunt showFear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi in itsFifth Season along with Kushal Tandon.[23]
She later was a mentor for a reality show,Ticket To Bollywood. In September 2014, Khan hostedStar Plus's singing reality showIndia's Raw Star. On 30 November 2014, Khan was slapped during the shooting of a singingreality show calledIndia's Raw Star by a member of the audience who admonished her for wearing a short dress.[24] Police arrested 24-year-old Akil Malik for attacking the actress atshow's studio inMumbai. They quoted the man as telling Khan that "being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress".[24] He was later produced in court on 1 December 2014.[25]
In May 2015, Khan made her Punjabi debut with the filmOh Yaara Ainvayi Ainvayi Lut Gaya, oppositeJassie Gill as Gunjan Kaur.[26] In October 2015, Khan participated inZee TV'sI Can Do That and was paired along withBani J.[27] Khan emerged as the first runner-up whilistRithvik Dhanjani emerged as the winner.[28] In January 2016, Khan started the year with appearing in Ekta Kapoor'sKyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 for the item song "Jawani Le Doobi".[29] In August 2016, Khan played one of the main leads inRavi Agrawal'sFever, co-starringRajeev Khandelwal andGemma Atkinson as Kavya.[30] The film released in August however failed at the box office.[31] In October 2016, Khan appeared in the filmFuddu for an item song, sung byJasmine Sandlas.[32]
In 2017, Khan appeared inKaran Johar'sBadrinath Ki Dulhania, the sequel toHumpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, starringVarun Dhawan andAlia Bhatt as Laxmi.[33] The film released in March.[34] In April 2017, Khan acted in the filmBegum Jaan, co-starringVidya Balan.[35] In December 2017, Khan acted inTera Intezaar.[36] In 2018, she acted inNine Hours in Mumbai as Gulabi.[37]
In June 2019, Khan appeared in the Indian version ofThe Office, an adaptation of the hitBBCseries of the same name. The show released on streaming service Hotstar on 28 June 2019.[38] Gauhar plays the character of Riya Pahwa, who is the boss of the lead character Jagadeep Chadda.[39] Later in the same year, Khan acted in a web series,Parchayee.[40]
In 2020, she returned toBigg Boss as a toofani senior for itsfourteenth season along withHina Khan andSidharth Shukla for the first three weeks.[41] In 2021, Gauahar played the role of Maithili Sharan in amazon web seriesTandav.[42]
Khan was in a relationship withKushal Tandon, herBigg Boss 7 co-contestant in 2013,[4] but later they broke up.[43]
In November 2020, she got engaged to actor and son of music directorIsmail Darbar, Zaid Darbar.[44] The two were married on 25 December of the same year.[45] On 20th December, 2022 she announced on her instagram that the couple is expecting their first child together.[46] On 10th May 2023 she gave birth to a baby boy, named 'Zehaan'.[47]
