Garies is a small agricultural centre situated inSouth Africa'sNorthern Cape province about 110 km south ofSpringbok, the chief town of theNamaqualand district. Current population approximately 1500.
TheLetterklipprovincial heritage site is situated just west of town.
The town is in the Namaqualand district, at the foot of theKamiesberg, 46 km south ofKamieskroon and 146 km northwest ofVanrhynsdorp. The name is Khoekhoen and means ‘couchgrass’, Afrikaans ‘kweek’.[2]
