Gangte is aSino-Tibetan language ofKuki-Chin linguistic sub branch ofNortheastern India. Its speakers primarily live inManipur and the adjacent areas ofMeghalaya andAssam. The language appears to be homogeneous with no known dialectal variation and exhibits at least partial mutual intelligibility with the otherChin-Kuki-Mizo dialects of the area includingThadou,Hmar,Vaiphei,Simte,Kom andPaite languages.[2]The speakers of this language useMeitei language as theirsecond language (L2) according to theEthnologue.[3]

Geographical distribution

Gangte is spoken in 37 villages of southernChurachandpur district,Manipur. It is also spoken inMeghalaya andAssam.[citation needed]
