Galerida is a genus ofbirds in the familyAlaudidae. The current scientific name is derived fromLatin.Galerida was the name for a lark with a crest, fromgalerum, "cap".[1] The nameGalerida is synonymous with the earlier genus namesCalendula,Heliocorys andPtilocorys.[2]
The genusGalerida was established by the German zoologistFriedrich Boie in 1828.[3] Thetype species was subsequently designated as thecrested lark.[4]
