Gadilon (Ancient Greek:Γαδιλών), also known asGazelon (Γαζηλών), and possiblyHelega,[1] was a town in the north-west ofancient Pontus, in a fertile plain between theHalys River andAmisus.[2][3] From this town the whole district received the name ofGadilonitis, which is probably the right form, which must, perhaps, be restored in two passages ofStrabo, in one of which the common reading isGalaouitis (Γαλαουῖτις),[4] and in the otherGazelotos (Γαζηλωτός).[5]
Its site is located nearBafra inAsiatic Turkey.[1][6]
