Gabriela Schloesser (néeBayardo, born 18 February 1994) is a Mexican-born Dutchrecurvearcher fromTijuana who representedMexico before 2016, and has represented theNetherlands since 2017.[1] In 2021, Schloesser andSteve Wijler won the silver medal in themixed team event at the2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.[2]

Career

She competed for Mexico in thearchery competition at the2016 Summer Olympics inRio de Janeiro, reaching the second round before being eliminated byLisa Unruh ofGermany.[3] Following the mandatory break of 12 months in international competition for athletes switching national representation, Schloesser made her debut as a Dutch archer at the third stage of theArchery World Cup in June 2018.[1]

In June 2019, partnered withSjef van den Berg, Schloesser won silver medal in the mixed recurve event at theArchery World Championships in's-Hertogenbosch, losing to the South Korean duo ofLee Woo-seok andKang Chae-young in the final.[4] Later that month at the2019 European Games held inMinsk,Belarus, Bayardo secured a qualification place for the2020 Summer Olympics inTokyo after reaching the semi-finals, becoming the first female Dutch archer to achieve an Olympic spot since 1996.[5] Although she lost toTatiana Andreoli ofItaly in their semi-final match, Schloesser claimed bronze medal after defeatingRussia'sAnna Balsukova in the third-place match.[6]

On 23 May 2021, she paired with Sjef van den Berg to claim gold medal in the recurve mixed team event during the2021 Archery World Cup defeating the Bangladeshi duo ofDiya Siddique andRuman Shana in the final.[7][8][9]

Schloesser andRick van der Ven won the gold medal in themixed team recurve event at the2022 European Archery Championships held in Munich, Germany.[10][11] Sherepresented the Netherlands at the2022 World Games held in Birmingham, United States.[12]
