Gabriel "Gaby" Robert (5 March 1920 – 15 May 2003) was a Frenchfootball player and coach. He played for theFrance Olympic team at the1948 Summer Olympics.[1]
After his playing career, he became a coach withHyères FC,Toulon,Lyon,Valenciennes[2] and coachedFrance at the1976 Summer Olympics.[3]
Robert played forAnnecy in 1945–1946,Racing Club Paris in 1946–1947,Hyères FC andSporting Club Toulon.[citation needed]
Robert was selected inFranceFootball squad for the1948 Summer Olympics,[4][5] and played France two games againstIndia[6] andGreat Britain,[7] asFrance were eliminated in the Quarterfinals.He never had a cap withFrance senior team.
In 1966 Robert coachedFrance national Amateurs team.[8]
In 1976 he managedFrance at the1976 Olympic Football Tournament, as France was eliminated in the quarterfinals byEast Germany.[9]
He thus became the first French, and to date the only, to participate to theOlympic Football Tournament as both a player and a manager.
Robert was born inBelcodène on 5 March 1920.[10] He died inHyères on 15 May 2003.[3]
