Genevieve Knight Hannelius[1] (born December 22, 1998)[1][2] is an American actress and singer who made her acting debut starring as Courtney Patterson on theABC seriesSurviving Suburbia (2009). She had recurring roles on the Disney Channel seriesSonny with a Chance (2009–2010) andGood Luck Charlie (2010–2011), and soon received recognition for her role as Avery Jennings in theDisney Channel sitcomDog with a Blog (2012–2015).[3] She has also voiced Rosebud in theAir Buddies film series (2011–2013), for which she won aYoung Artist Award in 2012 and starred as Christa Carlyle in the crime seriesAmerican Vandal (2017).
Hannelius was born Genevieve Knight Hannelius on December 22, 1998, inBoston, Massachusetts to Eric and Karla (née Knight) Hannelius.[4] Her father is Swedish.[5] She moved toYarmouth, Maine at age three, and then moved toLos Angeles at the age of nine with her family to pursue acting. She is an alumna of the Los Angeles-based Young Actor's Studio.[6] She graduated fromSierra Canyon School in May 2017.[7][8] She graduated fromSarah Lawrence College in 2021.[9][10] In January 2022, Hannelius moved toNew York City,New York.[11][12]
As a child, Hannelius had roles in theater, which include playingMadeline in the Children's Theater of Maine's production ofMadeline's Rescue in summer 2006[13] and Jenny inTales of a Fourth Grade Nothing with Children's Theatre of Maine and Maine State Music Theater. She began acting portraying Courtney Patterson on the sitcomSurviving Suburbia, playing the daughter ofBob Saget's character.[14]
Hannelius had a recurring role on theDisney Channel original seriesSonny with a Chance as Dakota Condor,[15] a guest role onHannah Montana as a fan named Tiffany,[16] and a recurring role onGood Luck Charlie as Jo Keener.[17] She also played Emily Pearson in the Disney Channel original filmDen Brother in 2010, and voiced the character Rosebud inSpooky Buddies, for which she won aYoung Artist Award;[18] she reprised the role in its sequelsTreasure Buddies andSuper Buddies.
In February 2011, she was cast for a lead role in the pilot of theHigh School Musical spin-off seriesMadison High, however the pilot was not picked up to series.[19] In 2012, Hannelius was cast as Avery Jennings on the Disney Channel seriesDog with a Blog,[20] which premiered in October of that same year, and ran until 2015; on average, it attained millions of viewers per episode.[21] In 2014, she guest starred as Mad Mack on the Disney Channel seriesJessie,[22] and voiced Lady Joy on the Disney Junior seriesSofia the First.
In 2017, Hannelius starred as Christina Carlyle in theNetflixmockumentary crime seriesAmerican Vandal,[23] which received critical acclaim, and earned aPrimetime Emmy Award nomination.[24][25] In 2019, she starred in an online interactive series titled "Timeline".[26] In 2020, she starred as Heather in thedirect-to-video horror filmDay 13.[27] In 2022, she had a supporting role in the Netflix filmAlong for the Ride.[9] In 2023, she starred in the comedy filmSid is Dead.[28][29]
Hannelius is an avid supporter of the anti-domestic violence charity organization A Window Between Worlds,[30] and hosted its annual fundraising event, "Art in the Afternoon", several times beginning in 2013.[31][32]
In 2015, Hannelius launched a customized nail-wrap app titled "Make Me Nails".[33] Hannelius stated that she was inspired to create the app because she "wanted to make nail art more accessible for young people".[34] She elaborated: "I was doing my own nail-art tutorials, and I could see that my fans were recreating my designs, and that was so cool to me. I wanted to take that to the next level and really give them something more personal."[34] In 2019, Hannelius created G Polish, a brand of cruelty-freevegan nail polish.[35][36]
