GSAT-8 orINSAT-4G is communication satellite. It was constructed by theIndian Space Research Organisation, as part ofINSAT system. GSAT-8 was launched on May 21, 2011, fromKourou,French Guiana. The rocket, anAriane 5 was the carrier, marketed by the EuropeanArianespace. First satellite to carryGAGAN payload followed up byGSAT-10 and in-orbit spareGSAT-15.[2][3]

Launch

[edit]

Prior to launch, the spacecraft was transported from India toCayenne – Rochambeau Airport inFrench Guiana by anAntonov An-124 cargo aircraft. The success of the launch is said to have made up for the previous loss of two satellites on the indigenousGSLV rocket.[4][5] GSAT-8 was co-located withINSAT-3E at 55°E.
