TheBafut language,Fut, is anEastern Grassfields language of theNiger–Congo languages, and related toBamum. Oral tradition traces dynastic origins to theNdobo orTikari areas. It is spoken by people ofBafut Subdivision, Tuba, in the division ofMezam and in the division ofMetchum inNorthwest Province, Cameroon.

The Bafut language was alphabetized bySIL International consultantJoseph Mfonyam in 1982. Since then, some literature has been translated into Bafut, most notably theNew Testament in 2000.
