Fursultiamine (INN; chemical namethiamine tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide orTTFD; brand namesAdventan,Alinamin-F,Benlipoid,Bevitol Lipophil,Judolor,Lipothiamine) is a medication and vitamin used to treatthiamine deficiency. Chemically, it is adisulfidederivative of thiamine and is similar in structure toallithiamine.[1]
It was synthesized inJapan in the 1960s fromallithiamine for the purpose of developing forms of thiamine with improvedlipophilicity for treatingvitamin B1 deficiency (i.e.,beriberi),[1] It was subsequently commercialized not only in Japan but also inSpain,Austria,Germany, and theUnited States.[2]
