TheFucha River is a river on theBogotá savanna and a left tributary of theBogotá River. The river originates in theEastern Hills of theColombian capitalBogotá and flows westward through the city into the Bogotá River. It is one of the three important rivers of the city, together with theTunjuelo andJuan Amarillo Rivers.
Fucha is derived fromMuysccubun, the indigenous language of theMuisca, who inhabited the Bogotá savanna before theSpanish conquest and means "her" or "female".[1]
The Fucha River originates in the localitySan Cristóbal in theEastern Hills ofBogotá and is named in its upper course Quebrada Manzanares,San Cristóbal,Arzobispo andSan Francisco River. It flows north from theTunjuelo River westward and respectively forms the boundary between the localitiesRafael Uribe Uribe (south) andAntonio Nariño (north) andTunjuelito andCiudad Bolivar (south) andKennedy (north) of the Colombian capital and is canalised between theCarrera Séptima and theAvenida Boyacá. South of the localityBosa, the Fucha River flows into theBogotá River. The Fucha River is highly contaminated.[2]
Four of the fifteen protected wetlands of Bogotá are located in the Fucha River basin.
