Frederick William Chapman (10 May 1883 – 7 September 1951) was an English amateurfootballer who competed in the1908 Summer Olympics.[2]
Chapman played for Notts Magdala,Nottingham Forest and South Nottingham,[1] making threeFootball League appearances for Forest.[3] He also guested forPort Vale in a league match againstlocal rivalsStoke Reserves on 23 April 1910; Vale were 2–0 up when the match was abandoned due to apitch invasion.[1] In the summer of 1910, he agreed to assist the Vale "in times of need", but he was not called into action for the club again.[1]
He went on to co-found English Wanderers and later played forOxford City, South Nottingham,Southall andBrentford.[1] He also guested forNorthern Nomads andNotts County.[1]
Chapman made several appearances for theEngland amateur team between 1908 and 1910, netting 5 goals and being a member of the English amateur team that representedGreat Britain at thefootball tournament of the1908 Summer Olympics.[4] Chapman played in all three games as amidfielder and netted two goals, scoring once in a 12–1 trashing ofSweden in the quarter-finals and then clutching the opening goal of thefinal in a 2–0 win overDenmark, thus contributing decisively to England's triumph inLondon.[2] He also netted two unofficial goals, a brace in a 5–2 win overWales on 20 February 1909.
