Freddie Potts (born 12 September 2003) is an English professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forEFL Championship sidePortsmouth, on loan fromPremier League clubWest Ham United.
JoiningWest Ham United at the age of six, Potts signed his first professional contract with the club in June 2021.[2] On 9 December 2021, Potts made his senior debut for West Ham in a 1–0 loss againstDinamo Zagreb in theUEFA Europa League, coming on as an 87th minute substitute forAndriy Yarmolenko.[4]
On 7 June 2023, Potts was part of the squad in the2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final, againstFiorentina inPrague. West Ham won their first major trophy in 43 years with a 2–1 victory.[5]
In July 2023, Potts joinedLeague One clubWycombe Wanderers on aseason-longloan. Manager,Matt Bloomfield said of Potts, "he plays with real energy and athleticism in the middle of the park and will really suit the way we want to play".[6] He made his Wycombe debut on 5 August in a 3–0 home defeat byExeter City.[7] He scored his first goal for the club in a 3–1 away defeat toCharlton Athletic on 23 September. His 20 yards (18 m) volley levelled the score with Wycombe conceding two late goals.[8]
At the end of the2023–24 season, Potts was voted both the Supporters' Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year by Wycombe Wanderers supporters.[9]
On 27 August 2024, Potts joinedChampionship sidePortsmouth on a season-long loan deal.[10]
Potts is the son of former West Ham United player and current coach,Steve Potts and the brother of formerLuton Town playerDan Potts.[2]
