František Pospíšil (born 2 April 1944) is a Czech formerice hockey defenceman and coach. Internationally, he played for theCzechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team from 1967 to 1977, at theIIHF World Championships and the Winter Olympics. He was inducted into theIIHF Hall of Fame in 1999.
He played in theCzechoslovak Elite League forPoldi Kladno from 1961 to 1978, then in Germany forEV Landshut in 1978–79. He won theGolden Hockey Stick as the top player inCzechoslovakia in 1971 and 1972. He scored 134 career goals in 622 league games.[citation needed]
Pospíšil played on theCzechoslovakia men's national ice hockey team from 1967 to 1977, which won the gold medal at theIIHF World Championships in 1972, 1976, and 1977; he was named best defenceman of the tournament in 1972 and 1976. He also played in the1972 and1976 Olympics and the1976 Canada Cup.[1] At the1976 Olympics he was proven of having usedcodeine, which was a banned substance back then.[citation needed]
Pospíšil began coaching in Czechoslovakia in 1979, first with his old teamPoldi Kladno from 1979 to 1983 and then withLitvínov from 1983 to 1985. He was assistant coach on thenational team between 1986 and 1988.[citation needed]
Pospíšil was inducted into theIIHF Hall of Fame in 1999.[2]
