Frank Pieter Israel (born 31 December 1946) is a Dutchastronomer. He received his Ph.D. in astronomy at theLeiden Observatory in 1976,[1]where he currently (in 2024) is emeritus professor. Most of his work is dedicated to theInterstellar medium of externalgalaxies. The asteroid7507 Israel is named for him.
Israel was chairman of theskeptical organisationStichting Skepsis.[2]
