Francisco Aragón is aLatino poet, editor and writer.
Born inSan Francisco, California, Aragón's parents migrated fromNicaragua in the 1950s.[1] is a graduate ofArchbishop Riordan High School. He studied at theUniversity of California at Berkeley andNew York University. He earned an MA from theUniversity of California at Davis and anMFA from theUniversity of Notre Dame.[2]
Aragón directsLetras Latinas, the literary program of the Institute for Latino Studies at theUniversity of Notre Dame.[3] He previously edited Momotombo Press. He served on the board of directors of theAssociation of Writers & Writing Programs.[4]
Aragón's books includePuerta del Sol (2005), andGlow of Our Sweat (2010). He edited the groundbreaking anthologyThe Wind Shifts: New Latino Poetry (2007).[5]
His poetry and translations have appeared in the anthologiesInventions of Farewell: A Book of Elegies (2001) andMariposa: A Modern Anthology of Queer Latino Poetry (2008), the journalsBeltway Poetry Quarterly,Crab Orchard Review,Chelsea, The Journal, the online journalsJacket, Electronic Poetry Review, andPoetry Daily.[5]
Aragón is the winner of anAcademy of American Poets College Prize and the 2010Outstanding Latino/a Cultural Award in Literary Arts or Publications from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education. Aragón is a member of the prestigiousMacondo Writers Workshop, the workshop founded bySandra Cisneros.[6] Aragón was also a founding fellow of theCantoMundo writing conference.
