France was represented at theEurovision Song Contest 2025 with the song "Maman", written byAnne Peichert and Tristan Salvati, and performed by Peichert herself under her stage name Louane. The French participating broadcaster,France Télévisions, internally selected its entry for the contest.
As a member of the "Big Five", France automatically qualified to compete in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Performing in position 24, France placed seventh out of the 26 performing countries with 230 points.
Prior to the 2025 contest,France Télévisions and its predecessor national broadcasters have participated in theEurovision Song Contest representing France sixty-six times sinceRTF's debut inthe inaugural contest.[1] They first won the contest in1958 with "Dors, mon amour" performed byAndré Claveau. In the 1960s, they won three times, with "Tom Pillibi" performed byJacqueline Boyer in1960, "Un premier amour" performed byIsabelle Aubret in1962, and "Un jour, un enfant" performed byFrida Boccara, who won in1969 in a four-way tie with theNetherlands,Spain, and theUnited Kingdom. Their fifth – and so far latest – victory came in1977 with "L'oiseau et l'enfant" performed byMarie Myriam. France has also finished second five times, withPaule Desjardins in1957,Catherine Ferry in1976,Joëlle Ursull in1990,Amina in1991 (who lost out toSweden'sCarola in a tie-break), andBarbara Pravi in2021. In the 21st century, France has had less success, only making the top ten five times, withNatasha St-Pier finishing fourth in2001,Sandrine François finishing fifth in2002,Patricia Kaas finishing eighth in2009,Amir finishing sixth in2016, and Pravi finishing second in 2021 with 499 points. In2024, it finished in fourth place with the song "Mon amour" performed bySlimane.[1]
As part of its duties as participating broadcaster,France Télévisions organises the selection of its entry in the Eurovision Song Contest and broadcasts the event in the country throughFrance 2. The French broadcasters have used both national finals and internal selections to choose their entries in the past. In 2021 and2022, the broadcaster selected its entries via the national finalEurovision France, c'est vous qui décidez !,[2] a format which was also planned to be held in 2023 but was ultimately cancelled in favour of an internal selection.[3] In August 2024,France Télévisions confirmed its intention to participate in the 2025 contest.[4]
On 30 January 2025,France Télévisions announced that it had internally selectedLouane as the French entrant for the 2025 contest;[5] the announcement came shortly after multiple French outlets reported Louane as having been unofficially confirmed to them as the selected entrant.[6] Her entry, "Maman", was presented to the public on 15 March, during half-time of the final match betweenFrance andScotland in the2025 Six Nations Championship tournament at theStade de France.[7][8]

Each participating broadcaster assembles a five-member jury panel consisting of music industry professionals who are citizens of the country they represent. Each jury, and individual jury member, is required to meet a strict set of criteria regarding professional background, as well as diversity in gender and age. No member of a national jury was permitted to be related in any way to any of the competing acts in such a way that they cannot vote impartially and independently.[10] The individual rankings of each jury member as well as the nation's televoting results were released shortly after the grand final.
